American Express has teamed up with Nova Credit, a
cross-border credit reporting startup, to offer immigrants the
ability to use international credit reports when applying for a credit card. Consumers
can use credit reports from Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Mexico and the
United Kingdom, with more countries to be added over time.
Nova enables credit records from some international credit
reporting agencies to be instantly translated into a U.S.-equivalent credit
report and score during the online card application process. Previously, many
people who moved to the U.S. were unable to obtain consumer credit before
establishing a credit history with U.S. credit bureaus.
